Misconceptions exist about recycling Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries, but Desco Electronic Recyclers is actively tackling this problem. Though Li-Ion battery recycling is costly and requires a substantial volume for viability, South Africa lacks the volume of used Li-Ion batteries for an in-house refinery.
Nonetheless, we’re actively seeking to process Li-Ion batteries and sending resulting materials overseas for extraction and reuse. We focus on safety because mishandling can lead to hazards. We use special vehicles and handling teams in the logistics process to render them safe before processing.
Desco has a mechanical process to grind the batteries and separate them into various fractions. Furthermore, Desco conducts EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) reporting to producers on this process and can also supply sustainability reports to clients who directly recycle lithium-ion batteries or electronics containing such batteries.
Every gram of lithium, cobalt, nickel, and copper we recycle helps reduce the need for mining, benefiting the environment. To support our mission, contact us for proper Li-Ion battery and electronic disposal.
Desco is committed to establishing a zero-waste cyclical market, promoting material reuse, and reducing reliance on mining, aligning with sustainably development goals.
